Botanical Garden and Herbarium HEID

Founded in 1593 and looking back on an eventful history, the Botanical Garden is one of the oldest institutions of the University. It has been a part of the Heidelberg Institute of Botanics (HIP) since the year 2001. Its collection of living plants and herbarium, parts of which are open to the public, make it one of the most important and species-rich botanical gardens in Germany, and Europe. Its main uses include academic research and teaching, education, public use, and protection of species.
